DGM HQ Broad accents of

09.12

DGM HQ.

Broad accents of the Broad Chalke kind began late at 08.46, although the back door to the Village Shop opened punctually at 08.30.

Reflecting on the band of a friend, actually of several friends, which isn't receiving the acceptance that was hoped for. How can I help with this? I have been pondering. Perhaps calls to agents & promoters? This is, however, my tendency to be helpful, and helpful people are a nuisance. Helpful people contribute to preventing a necessary situation from arising at the appropriate time. A direct repercussion from this is, a necessary situation that needs to be addressed is not. Then things go more wronger than they was before (as one might say in Broad Chalke).

The band has two prime internal weaknesses. One might be held in check if the other is addressed, and addressed radically. But this is not something to be dealt with from the outside: the affair is internal. If the band is able to deal with this internal matter, the externals will mysteriously line up with support, assistance & help. If the band puts this off, it will falter & fail, also seemingly strangely & surprisingly.

So, if the band as a whole is unable to deal with its health, the lack of unified willingness will be clear. It will then grow weak & most likely expire.

My own experience of being in bands is now approaching its 42nd. anniversary, so I empathise, sympathise & send goodwill. But not be helpful.

The bank called at 08.55 while I was in the kitchen: DGM "has exceeded its limit". Perhaps we should economise on the expense of sleeping arrangements in the office. Perhaps the old orange curtain, the "blanket" that keeps my toes nice and toasty, could be auctioned on e-Bay & the proceeds go to reduce our overdraft. On e-Bay, DGM could sell several old orange curtains, and all of them unique.

10.25 Morning reading: a chapter of Vicar III. Morning listening: Vaughan Williams' Five Variations of Dives & Lazarus. Now, Soundscapes from last week's The Fayman Sessions in Nashville accompany my beginning stuff-day.

14.42 An artist is difficult; an artiste is problematic.

I am not suggesting that artists should pick up rifles climb into the trenches; but it is good & valuable that artists sink their hands into the earth & get them dirty. Otherwise, there is the danger that sensitivity becomes preciousness.

14.56 The Afternoon Shift is underway. Volume IV of The Guide is go.

15.16 This running order doesn't quite. And the computer isn't working so we can't implement Plan B.

Also today: developments with the F&E III cover and a possible major arising for those interested in the JGB line.
